Kitsun (Japanese: シラヌイ Shiranui) is a Fire icon Fire element Pal.

Paldeck Entry[]

Kitsun menu Kitsun
Despite its appearance, Kitsun is extremely sensitive and will flee into a cave when spooked. Long ago, it was considered an ill omen if one were found nearby.

Biology[]

Appearance[]

Kitsun is a fairly large canid-like creature with white fur and various light blue markings, such as on the forehead, paws, behind the eyes, the tips of its mane, and most of the enormously thick tail, which is as long as the Pal's own body. Its most notable feature is a luminous, electric blue ring of fire wreathed around the neck, acting like a mane, positioned in front of its actual mane of thick white fur. A wing-like tuft of fur sprouts from the base of each thigh. There are chrome-gold plates and bands placed behind its jaws/cheeks and worn on the lower legs, respectively.

Behavior[]

It is known to be very anxious. While it can be intimidating on the surface and were once considered bad luck, its actually quite timid, and is known to flee into caves when approached. That being said, it is anything but weak, and it will defend itself if harassed into a corner, so players should wake one up at their own risk.

While this Pal can only be found at night, for some reason, they will be more commonly found sleeping than they will be roaming around. They will still be able to spawn for a while after the break of dawn and won't completely disappear until the sun is actually visibly rising in the horizon.

Despite being considered a nocturnal species, if employed as a Base Pal, they will actually sleep during nighttime, and thus will need a bed to accommodate them, perhaps a side effect of not being a Dark element Pal.

Update History[]

Trivia[]

  • The English name comes from kitsune, the Japanese word for "fox", but with the E at the end removed to possibly emphasize the Pal's "blue sun" motif.
    • Its codename, "AmaterasuWolf", reinforces this sun motif, as Amaterasu is the Shinto deity of the sun, who was famously depicted as a wolf in the cult classic videogame Ōkami, this association of Amaterasu with wolves has to do with wordplay using the Japanese word for wolf (狼 Ōkami) which is homophonous to the Japanese word for great god (大神 Ōkami).
  • Its Japanese name, シラヌイ Shiranui (literally "unknown fire" or "phantom fire"), references a type of ghost fire or will-o'-wisp commonly reported off the coasts of the Japanese island of Kyūshū, specifically in the skies above the Ariake and Yatsushiro Seas. In Japanese culture, ghost fire is often depicted as being blue or purple in colour.
  • Kitsun was featured in Paldeck No.054 on PocketPair X and youtube channel.
